We are in the darkest days of the year and I think I can truly say I’m really embracing them (not my default state, I know! I love the sunshine and the summer). How you ask? Through….
Slowing down by putting less on my calendar, creating a nest on my couch, and getting cozy with tea or hot cocoa.
Going inward by meditating more and journaling for self-reflection.
Walking. Not biking, not driving, but the mindfulness of walking in the crisp air, bundled up and hearing the crunch of leaves (or snow!) underfoot.
Shifting my daily schedule. I’m eating dinner earlier (when I can, schedules don’t always allow it) and going to bed earlier. I’m also sleeping in a little more. I feel more tired and I’m listening to my body.
Staying off social media. It’s been glorious!
I think I would sum it up as “LESS IS MORE” (more for my soul that is!) . I’m moving into a time of winter hibernation and trying to resist grind culture and the push to “go go go” and do more and more. We’re approaching the Winter Solstice (12/21), the shortest day of the year. How will you celebrate it? We often fight the dark, but without it, we wouldn’t have the light.
