Caitlin Brown (she/her/hers) is the founder of Mindful Detroit, a certified yoga therapist (C-IAYT), a licensed macro social worker (LMSW), a trauma-informed yoga therapist (TIYT), and experienced registered yoga instructor (E-RYT 500). She began her journey with yoga and meditation due to her own struggles with anxiety. As a social worker, she has also turned to her mat and her cushion for important and reflective self-care to prevent burnout and compassion fatigue that is all too common in helping professions. She founded Mindful Detroit to share yoga, mindfulness and wellness services.

She received her BA from the University of Michigan in 2006, her 200 hour Yoga Teacher certification from the Asheville Yoga Center in 2010, her MSW from Wayne State University in 2012, and her 800 hour Yoga Therapy certification from Inner Peace Yoga Therapy in 2022.

She has received specialized training in yoga for: Trauma (3 different trainings), anxiety and depression, LGBTQIA+ support, perinatal support, grief, pain and back pain, addiction, injury prevention, cancer, functional yoga therapy, the chakras, and Ayurveda.

She has a Master’s in Social Work from Wayne State University and is licensed in the state of Michigan. During her MSW program, she studied clinical practice and CBT, and interned at an agency that incorporated therapeutic yoga for eating disorders. Since graduating, she has done work in research, evaluation, program planning, and teaching.

In addition to her group and private yoga and mindfulness offerings, Caitlin is an adjunct faculty member at Wayne State University, where she teaches coursework on yoga, mindfulness, and mind-body-spirit approaches in social work practice. She also teaches continuing education workshops and consults on curriculum design related to yoga, mindfulness, and wellness. She has also been a yoga therapist at Children’s Hospital of Michigan, where she worked with pediatric patients in oncology, hematology, and mental health.

Caitlin was born and raised in the city of Detroit and is excited to share these services with her community.

VALUES
Mindful Detroit values a respect for the earth, our ancestors and elders, and social, racial, economic and environmental justice. Mindful Detroit recognizes the damaging effects of cultural appropriation and commodification in the wellness world and seeks to honor the originating cultures and religions of holistic practices. Mindful Detroit also recognizes that Detroit (Waawiyatanong, meaning “where the water goes around”) is the stolen land of the Anishinaabe (the Three Fires Confederacy of the Ojibwe, Odawa, and Potawatomi people). Mindful Detroit honors their past, present, and future stewardship of these lands and waters, aims to uphold the same stewardship, and stands in solidarity with indigenous people.
